Well I know my plot hasn't been bought at todays prices but even so there's aheck of a difference between £250 per year and £23 per year...........I have a half plot which is 9 rods or 1/16 acre ........not sure what that is in square yards so can't actually visualise it. And sheds all placed in the same corner....?That spoils the whole quirkyness of lotties that we know and love.
S*d the housework I have a lottie to dig a batch of jam is always an act of creation ..Christine Ferber
Well there is a shortage of allotments and many private allotments are springing up all over the country for example near Cardiff, Northern Ireland and in Kent. Here in Frodsham is a good example of a scheme that will get lots more people into growing and as for the sheds being in the same corner of the plot it is a tidy resolution of the old windows and corrugated sheets that blight so many sites. As for the cost it is equal to 2 pints of beer a week; is that too much? Also schools are free which means more youngsters taught how vegetables are grown.
There is a shortage of allotments and if this gets more people to grow their own every credit to the scheme which is only one of the many that are springing up all over the country.
Sheds in line ;so what ? A change from old window frames and corrugated sheets making a site look awful.
As to cost; well it is less than a cinema ticket or 2 pints of beer a week
Thank you for your welcome ; greatly appreciated.
I live in Shrewsbury Shropshire and I will try to get it inserted but being new to this forum I am not sure how to do it.
Would happily pay £250 per year if it was close by...
Funny enough, it is "Wrexham based" company who opened these allotments - but why in Frodsham?
Wrexham waiting lists have hundreds of people on them...
Hi Alex and welcome. This is a very old post and I'm not sure how relevant it is now. Why don't you Introduce yourself to the rest of the Vine and add your location to your profile. Then we can all say Hello!!
Thank you Veggiechicken. I'm just passing by, yet another frustraited gardener with no garden, number 100-something on the allotment waiting list... Those allotments in Frodsham are doing fine as far as I know, would be nice if that "Wrexham-based company" started some more, this time actually in Wrexham, I'm sure the demand would be high...
Where do your live, Alex? Near Wrexham or Frodsham? If we have a rough idea it helps with advice.
Don't just pass on by, stay for a chat! There are a lot of people here without allotments who grow successfully in pots or on balconies. Maybe you'll find some ideas here to tide you over.
Thank you, Veggiechicken.
I live in Wrexham
For the past few years I have been growing things in pots - salads and herbs, strawberries, alpine strawberries, blueberries and cranberries. I also have a cherry tree and some soft fruit bushes in my tiny back garden. My parents who live far away have 1/4 acre and I do miss the opportunity to grow whatever we want and as much of it as we want...
Croeso, Alex Lex!! There are a few Grapes on here from Wrexham so you're in good company. Most of us are trying to get as much produce as we can from our spaces, whatever size they may be. Lots of good ideas on here for making the most of your space. Hope you find something that helps!!
