  • Cherry Tree from cuttings

    Hi All,

I kept some of the branches from pruning my cherry (don't know what type - came from Woolies 6 years ago) and thought iI'd experiment with cuttings.

I have 4 sticks I am playing with, one which has been dipped in rooting powder and then in a pot of compost, 2 in a vase of water in a dark room (downstairs loo), and one in a vase of water in a bright warm room on the windowsill.

Now, the one in the compost and the two in the downstairs loo are doing very little, but the one in the bright warm room looks like the leaves are about to start coming out. What is strange is there is no sign of roots on that particular cutting (tbh, there is no sign of roots on the two downstairs either, and I can't say with the one in compost).

Should I stick the sprouting one in some compost with the rooting powder, or is it doomed. Will the others do anything? Will this method even work?

I don't know much about cherries but I think this will not be a very good idea.

Basically you could get a tree that is not very strong/ too vigorous etc.
