If there is a wine catagory at the show then yes you can enter into it.
Possible alternative is look for a local wine making group, you can get feedback from them and if they have a show let them judge a bottle. Except any feedback from drinkable to turpintine.

One of the wine making societies south of me has an annual show, oddly what they seem to always miss off of all advertising is the date of the show. Did email someone once and they seemed quite upset that I pointed out it would be useful if they published a date for the show. They never did and never has since either.

Not sure where the limit for producing wine is before it is considered a busness and so needing licencing. It will I suspect be illegal to sell any as a money making excecise of any form.

It's not the amount, it's the fact of selling a thing that makes it a business. And you can't sell alcohol without a license.

I would suggest the reason they don't is that the judges are generally from food backgrounds and some might even have to drive to the venue in order to judge.

To accurately judge wine you need a different level of expertise otherwise it is purely personal taste and that would be a little unfair of the contestants.

There is no limit to the amount of home made wine you can produce, the only limitation is on the sale of it which is strictly prohibited unless you have a licence. You can give it away, but cannot charge a penny for it to keep within the law.

Know that they have ones that are based on the members of the club but the show was advertised on their web-site and they also said to apply for an entry form for the show if you wanted to enter anything in to it. The entry form to submit a bottle for judging has the option of Member or Non-Member.

Location was provided, as were all the things being held at the annual show, not a great many, besides just a wine tasting and judging. Just no indication of when, either on the entry form or elsewhere.

Wasn't intending to enter but I was thinking that visiting and so getting an impression of the people and set up may have been useful. The club where I live seems to have either disappeared or is so irregular that this other (bigger?) one appeared a bit more promising. If new people are not made to feel they can find out then eventually the club fails. No new people means a dead club after some years, there are a number of forums that will happily take people away from wine-making societies that make themselves unapproachable.

I know what you mean. I'm in a club that struggles (ie, doesn't) attract young members. They absolutely refuse to put the club on faceb00k, or to use email

If its a garden club you need to put it in terms they'll understand. If you fail to water and feed the young seedlings they will die.
