They're so much prettier out of the pods than in.

              "Breiteneicher Alte" (Broadoaks' Old)

No, this is not a runner bean - it's a common or garden, climbing French bean from the seed archive of the "Arche Noah" (Noah's Arc) initiative, Austria.

Like in many old varieties, there is a lot of variety - not all pods are that long, not all that straight, even the flowers differ in that most are white but on a couple of plants they are pink, and the seeds came in different shades, too. A vigorous grower! Pods are flat, tender and stringless until fairly mature. I'll certainly grow them again.

The picture with the platter is my entry. The other is the same three beans just with a measuring tape for scale.
