  • Local authority allotments??

    https://www.facebook.com/thehortchan...44695555561702

    Seen this on Facebook!

This is a sad thing what happens if they choose to close your site down?

I've spent money on mine in the last two years improving soil greenhouses etc will people be compensated?? I doubt it!

Don't know whether to just fob the lot off and set a few raised beds up in my garden!

This government tell people to grow then take away allotments!

    This is old,

The following post accessible by following the link in your OP sets out the situation.

"Hooty McOwlface THIS IS AN OLD STORY THAT WAS RESOLVED WITHIN MONTHS BACK IN 2011! At that time government consulted on removing dozens of laws (statutory provisions) and this included allotments. A campaign was launched by the National Allotment Society and within a week government had received so many objections from NAS members that they backtracked on allotments and David Cameron made a statement in the House of Commons. Just before that happened the Independent newspaper joined the campaign. You can find details in the Independent archive and in Hansard. I've no idea why someone has restarted this, but please don't waste your time signing something that is in effect defunct."

Councils these days have to demonstrate that there isn't a need, and any waiting list they have on any site has to be taken into consideration. If anything councils are under greater pressure to find new sites than to remove existing ones.
I'm only here cos I got on the wrong bus.
