  • Not the New Year's Resolution thread.

Following on from Veggiechicken's amazing thread last year - the 52 week challenge- and her handing over the challenge to us, I have been thinking (dangerous) and I would like to suggest a new approach.

This is not for the totally organised and in control grapes, who are carrying on their lives in an exemplary manner.

This is for those of us, including me, (after all I am a Clownfish ) who regularly descend into chaos and have some really bad habits.

So to test out the self- help guru's assertion that it takes 21 days to build a new good habit I am suggesting we have a new monthly habit thread.

Here goes with mine for a starter.
For my first month I am going to try and pull my handbrake on silently and not grind the ratchet. I have done this for years so I am hoping a month will sort me out!
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

Mine is a simple one.. To drink more water. I don't drink hardly near enough - and I'm sure in doing so will help improve my mood (well, maybe when I leave where I currently work too ).

I'm going to try and be a bit more tidy once the decorations have come down.

Like the idea of drinking more water too Chris...I'll have a go at that too!

Wow some good ones to begin with!

Remember you are just aiming to do this for a month - just to see if it works!

te he!..well I'm certainly sorted for the next 4 months then
...can we lapse after the month or is this a 'life-style' training thingy????

Well the lifestyle gurus say it takes 21 days to develop a new good habit so I reckon a month is enough to see if they are right - as long as the goal is realistic and the reward is intrinsic!

I did press the end button on my handbrake three times out of 4 this morning - the 4th time I forgot to put it on at all and thought 'that's funny, the car is moving!'

I have put a post-it note on the central console to remind me!

I WILL floss my teeth every day and not just when I can be bothered/remember/am not in a hurry/not too tired.

I deliberately developed a habit last year of smiling broadly at nasty people, grumpy post office clerks are my speciality, but traffic wardens are a close second. I found their reactions to be quite unexpected and rewarding, 80% at least look stunned and surprised then smile back. Its very satisfying. It now takes me an extra half an hour to visit our shops co's so many people want to chat!

This year I am going to force my self to be more interested in other people. When I get off the phone my wife asks, how is his wife and kids? I answer "Didnt ask" My wife then says has she had her baby? again "Didnt ask" and so it goes on.

Good habit, Bill HH - just try it out for a month and see.
