Hi all, I've just discovered this fabulous tool for planting potatoes etc. I searched high and low on the Internet and came accross this company selling them.

I can just see putting a potato in it, and it moving and a few of the sprouts getting chopped off if you have chitted it.

It's known as a long handled bulb planter but I don't plant bulbs & seems a shame not to use it......

I thought it was a walking aid - something to keep you upright?

I also use a bulb planter. It's one of those tools I use year round...not just for bulbs.

the logic defies me .... a tool that is used to save on backache etc .... but requires the ground to be dug over .... and the product it "helps" us plant needs digging up too .... and it's that digging that does our backs in, not popping spuds into little holes ....

Och if it helps people with dickie backs well and good. What concerned me a bit was he was planting his spuds 8" apart. I plant my earlies a minimum of a foot apart and my lates 15"

I don't use mine for backache reasons, I use it for convenience and speed - why move a square foot of soil just to put a little potato in?

I just use a trowel to be honest but then I don't have a dodgy back due to the copious amounts of yoga I do ( I have dodgy most everything else though from too much high impact aerobics in the 90's.... feel the burn people).

Yes it certainly does! Whilst looking for the planter, I did pop into my local diy store, to see if a "post holer" would work.

I too discovered that I can use my bulb planter for lots of things. The only time I've used it for bulbs was last week when I was planting hyacinths into the ground from the bowls and baskets they had flowered in. That gadget looks quite difficult to use.
