  • Free Pea 'Meteor' Seeds

I received the new edition of the magazine and was delighted to see the free seeds were Pea 'Meteor' which can be overwintered. I rushed straight out to my polytunnel and filled up my Root trainer module with multi-purpose compost. Opened up the packet of free seeds......to find 8 pea seeds, two of which were smashed so couldn't be used!!! Is it just me, or is that a little on the miserly side?????

I got twelve whole seeds and two halves At 2" between seeds they will all fit in a Morrison's bucket, and there was me thinking about going to the lottie and preparing a bed for them.

I'm extremely envious that you got 12 whole seeds - I think I've been diddled!

Whoah I got fourteen and thought I was hard done to If you give me one of your halves RL, then I will send you a whole one - then we will have 13.5 each. Is this sounding like a Maths question?
If VVG has 14 peas and RL has 12.5, TS takes three of them, how many apples do they have?

It's interesting to see that nobody has the same number of seeds in their packets. At the moment, the lowest is 8 (typical that is me!) and the highest is 15. Quite a difference!!!

Turn to page 31 of the mag. Some extracts from the growing advice to make you chuckle:-
"ideal for growing on smaller plots"
"sow in zigzag formation leaving 5cm space between seeds... space your rows at least 60cms apart"
Now I'm one of the lucky ones with 15 seeds. Even planted in a straight line they would only need 75cms!
Maybe these peas are best suited to square foot gardening

Maybe they are like Jack's beans - a little yields a lot...I feel another poem coming on

I see the packet suggests successional sowing too. What, 2 peas per week?

Mine are tiny too and that's not a problem I've ever had before

They are very small seeds, but I've not grown Meteor before. Maybe typical of the variety?

no, I usually grow them and these are distinctly dinkier - do you think we have the runts of the litter or scrapings from the factory/sorting floor?
