Hi all!
I'm Tina and I live in North East Lincolnshire - you may have heard of Cleethorpes
I got my allotment in March this year and it had been a 'nature reserve' as the other allotment holders call my plot, and had been covered in brambles for well over 10 years. The allotment had been cleared, but that was it. I spent the first six weeks just digging and only managing to sort out three beds, but started growing garlic, carrots, beetroot, beans, peas... My allotment neighbours were nothing short of amazing and handed me freebies of pepper plants, squashes, courgettes, chard and cabbage.
The plot has done surprisingly well and once the plot had been ploughed, things turned out much easier to do! Since then I've planted potatoes (taking the first ones out this week), potatoes for Christmas (they only went in the ground a couple of weeks ago), strawberries, kale, more cabbage, all sorts of different beans, spring onions, more carrots and all sorts of salad leaves. I absolutely love it, although I have to bribe my daughter to come with me these days lol
I grew up on a farm back in Sweden, and I can't tell you how wonderful it is to get back into the digging and growing and get proper mucky and stuck in! I have been reading these forums for some time now, but not had any reason to post.. but since trying out the courgette chocolate cake the other day, I thought it was too good not to share with you all - go have a look in the recipe section
