  • Potato Fertiliser

    Hi Folks
I've been watching a couple of clips on-line in preperation for putting out my first ever lot of potatoes next week in rubblesacks/re-useable bags (Roosters & Belle De Fontays)
The clips all mention Fertiliser i only have a Miracle- Gro general soluble fertiliser (24-8-16) or a Wilkinsons own brand liquid tomato feed, would either of these be ok? or do i need to buy some special potato fertiliser?.
Also where would the sacks be best situated on my decking? in a shaded area ?(i do have use of a coldframe),i do i just leave them out to the elements? as you can tell i'm a neewbie!.
    Thanks in Advance

The general purpose fertilizer will grow you lots of foliage as it is full of nitrogen.
You need a balanced fertilizer that has a ratio of 1-1-1.5 NPK. So you would want something like a 6-6-12 NPK etc etc.

        Fancy making your own?
1 part Comfrey liquid with about 19 parts worm tea for an estimated N.P.K ratio of 2.5 : 2.2 : 2.5 %. Alternatively dilute 1 part Comfrey concentrate in 15 - 20 parts water - Comfrey Makes Garden Fertilizer

Would i get by with my tomato liquid i already have which is 4-4-12 or my local Lidl has tomato feed 9-6-15.
I do need to buy some general fertiliser i've been advised phostrogen is a good all rounder for container veg gardening that is 14-10-27 so i could maybe use that?.
If not it looks like a need to buy the special stuff!
          Thanks so much in advance.
