  • i opened the eggs

    well just shows that candling isn't always perfect ..... there were 3 fully grown chicks, 1 aracuana and 2 ixworths, i was never certain about the aracuanas, as the shells were so dark on 2 of them, anyway of the 2 one had died very early, and the other hadn't developed at all, and one of the ixworths hadn't developed ....... i opened the top very carefully just in case, but the chicks were already dead, at the stage just before they absorbed the yolk, so they were proper chicks and beautiful, i'm going to bury them tomorrow

    i wasn't sure whether to include a photo, so i have decided to ..... but please please if you are in any way squeamish at seeing a dead baby bird, please don't look ..... they still have the yolk sac attached on their bellies

    thanks for all the support, and heres to the next ones and doing it properly xx

    Thats so sad for you Lynda. If they died that early though then it wasnt a prob with incubator temp in the latter stages as you thought? ((((((((((HUGS))))))))))

      Really sorry to hear that lynda

      Candling as you say isn't perfect, but I've always found the warm water test to be spot on. If the egg moves - the chick is alive and you get peace of mind.

                    That's really sad. It's a nice gesture to bury them. {hugs}
