It was really easy to make (melty butter, stir everything else in including mashed banana and egg (it was sloppy, like a gloopy batter) and the very last thing you do in empty in a pack of choc chips and give it a quick stir then pour into a loaf tin and cook. The choc chips partially melt in the warm mixture and give the whole thing a marbled effect.

I got it!!

This sounds right from memory - tho' I'd still be curious as to where I got the recipe from last time...

Chocolate Banana Cake

2 large ripe bananas
1/2 tsp vanilla flavouring
175g butter
225g granulated sugar
275g self raising flour
1/2 tsp bicarbonate of soda
3 eggs (beaten)
100g chocolate chips
Grease and line two 8 inch sandwich cake tins with greased greaseproof paper. (note - I used a loaf tin)

Peel the bananas and mash until smooth in a small bowl with vanilla flavouring.
Melt butter and sugar in a saucepan until dissolved. Remove from heat and stir in flour and soda. Beat in eggs and mashed banana. Cool slightly. Stir in chocolate chips, and spoon into tin.
Cook at 170C for 35 mins or until skewer inserted into center of cake comes out clean.
Decorate with melted chocolate and bananas if you wish. (nah - just as it is, for me)

Hi Hazel, I was given a piece of that cake on Monday when I went to see a friend. She sent me the recipe yesterday. It is exactly the same (except it's in old money 'cos we don't unnerstand centimolds). Only slight difference is she uses 1tsp Baking Powder rather than 1/2 tsp bicarb.

Oh yes and it's baked in one tin. Extra info, leave it until next day before eating. Hmm. Chance'd be a fine thing

Oops! Too late!

Word of warning on the cooking times - if you put it all in one loaf tin, it's perfect, size-wise, BUT needs about an hour cooking time.
