  • Pea Shoots

I'm sure Nick posted this but I can't find the thread. Anyway, here are the pea shoots Nick and delicious they are too - taste like fresh picked peas. Show you the pick before I eat them all and wait for the next sprouting. |They sure saved my face on Sunday when I had unexpected guests for dinner and nothing to make a garnish for the starters. Used the pea shoots and they went down very well. Guests off declaring they were having them on the windowsill at all times. Thank you nick.

Wow - how long did yours take Alice? Mine are just poking their heads through the soil!!

The thread was about what were people planting now that they shouldn't be (or something like that) and I am pretty sure it was Supersprout's suggestion.

Hi Shirl, missed the post by Supersprout, but I'm certain there was a post by Nick (I'm sure he'll be along to confirm). I planted the peas on the 16th January (just checked) so quite good going. Once they're up - and that doesn't take long, they just rampage. Good one for anyone who wants to grow with children I would think.

What sort did you grow Alice, or are they just called "pea shoots" ?

Hi Jennie, the peas are Kelvedon Wonder, but I'm sure the variety doesn't matter a jot if it's only the shoots you want. I'm only growing them as something you can eat from the windowsill. Just cut the shoots and eat them, they taste like fresh picked peas, and they sprout again. I don't think they will do it more than twice - but maybe somebody knows different. Nick ?

The Grapevine > On the Plot > Vegging Out > So what exactly is everyone sowing at the moment against the advice on the pack?!

That was the thread - partway down first page, Supersprout advised pea shoots as a good way to stop itchy fingers.

Sorry, don't know how to link the thread properly

Thanks for that Shirl. Sure that's a good link but not where I got the idea from. I'm about sure it was from Nick the grief and it was in a post with a pic. I've searched under everything I can think of but can't find it. Anyway, maybe it doesn't matter, it's still a lovely way to get food from the windowsill and an easy way to grow with children - up quickly and you can eat it.

I'm trying these out myself, sounds like a lovely change to my usual sprouted beans. I am positively drooling at the thought of the taste of peas....
