One of the catalogue (can't remember if its HDRA or Tamar) do an Organic GP fertiliser if your worried.

Blood

I use blood, fish and bone and I also mix of a comfrey feed in water (by the way mine has been the same barrel for a year now, will it still be okay - don't relish having to drain it off! Last time I did that the neighbour thought his baby had really gone to town!). I was just interested in growmore, as the last allotment I was on everyone swore by it - oh and I also use a seaweed feed, which is excellent.

I would have thought the Comfrey mix was OK, just extra strong ( & smelly) I've got the leaflet on comfrey from HDRA and wondered about the drainpipe method, anyone tried it? (I thought better than to ask this question on Valentines night becoause of the responses I may get )

I get my seaweed feed from HDRA and wherever I see it, will have to go into my store to find the name...Maxicrop! (God my memory). You can now also get granules/like chicken manure.

Drainpipe

I have my comfrey in an old beer barrel it has been there for 12 months (will it still be okay?). Also, drainpipe, I'm intrigued, how? Could this be another top tip?

HDRA do a leaflet/booklet Andrew on comfrey and one of the things in it is the comfrey drain pipe.

What you do is get fome drainpipe and fasten it verticaly to your shed or a post .
Fit a blanking cap on the lower end with a small hole in and put the comfrey leaves in the top.
Get a pop bottle (the biggest you can get inside the drain pipe and tie some string to the top and put this in the pipe.

The bottle acts as a weight squashing the comfrey down and as it ferments the liquid drips out of the bottom and you catch this in whatever (another bottle) then use this for your feeds but watered down as it will be concentrated.

As the comfrey rots down just remove the bottle, top up the drainpipe with Comfrey then replace the bottle weight.

Well thats the way it reads in the booklet, I'll let you know how easy it is when I try it

I think I will stick with the beer barrel, I have no shed and the other half won't be impressed if I attach a drainpipe to the house - garden too tiny!

Comfrey Drainpipe

Like the sound of the Comfrey drainpipe idea. Am getting some Comfrey sent to me so hopefully will be able to set it up fairly soon - drainpipes (and sheds) are not a problem for me !!

Growmore is currrently £1 a box at Wilko... reduced from about £1.29p!!!!
They also sell organic seaweed liquid feed concentrate at £2.50 a bottle. i think it's by a company call Vitax or similar.

Drill a hole in the blanking cap and insert one of the nozzels commonly found on tubes of sealant or 'no nails' etc from the inside. Use some sealant to fix it in place so when you put the cap on the pipe it hangs down. It should come with a small screw cap to cover the end, you simply remove this and fill a bottle with the comfry liquid.
