There's been quite a few discussions about how to water a polytunnel over the years. I don't have access to mains water on my lottie and to be honest am not totally comfortable with using tap water in the garden anyway as I don't think it's environmentally a good plan. Anyway, particularly in summer I need an auto system to keep the beds watered. Originally bought one of those stick one channels that the tunnel manufacturers sell and they're totally useless in my experience. Since then OH has rigged up a proper guttering system which works just brilliantly. The water falls on the tunnel and is then diverted into the butts by some flexible plastic sheeting which is taped to the guttering (which is supported off the ground on posts) and the side of the tunnel. As it's flexible it can cope with the profile of the tunnel which changes in different weather. The butts are then connected to a network of soaker hose within the tunnel which is run off a normal battery operated timer. Works brilliant and I've finally remembered to take some photos to hopefully explain it all properly to those who've asked in the past.

Polytunnel Watering
Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.
Which one are you and is it how you want to be?Tags: None

Thank you Alison, very inventive solution to the problem, thank you for sharing it. It does seem essential to find a solution to this problem (Haygrove Tunnels are developing one but turns into very expensive rainwater!) Alison seems to have gone one better not only collecting the rainwater but fixing it so it distributes itself, that's really cool gardening!.
