What staging do you all have?

    What staging do you all have?

    single tier, 2 tier? cheapo? decent?

    is it worth investing in decent ones? B&Q have 4' ones for £30 each, aluminium ones, but wondering if the slates are strong? Are wooden ones worth it, or is it work me building some myself?

    I have got a B&Q 4' one , it's ok . I haven't got big heavy pots on it tho' they're on the floor. In the winter I shall put my small blowaway in there as well .

      I built my own Chris, a bit like a 8' long slatted pasting table. Both legs are hinged so can fold under and be stowed away if reqd.

        I built my own too - slatted top with small full length shelf above and lots of storage underneath. Plenty of hooks etc for my tools too.

            When I was in the Uk I had two greenhouses and built all the furniture myself, that way I could have exactly what I wanted. Great mistake leaving them behind!

            But 5.5 years on, my new French greenhouse is being delivered on Monday and I've already worked out how much timber I'll need for the staging, watering place, potting bench etc. Happy autumn building it all and installing it ready for the new season's growing, no more buying veg or flower plants!

                      can i suggest that you make a sort of base such as the ones it the pictures above only without the top make it out of fairly chunky timber so as a top is not needed for stability add piece of lath along inside of top crossbars and both sides but make it lower than the sides then just set in sort of slats made from 6x1" or perhaps old scaffold boards chopped up that way you can remove slats to let tall plants grow up through if you dont need the entire length of the bench giving you added room I dont have a greenhouse so cant take a picture of this but if i did this is the way id make it if you like the idea of this but dont really know what im getting at tell me and maybe i could draw it a post that

                        I looked at all the ready made staging options but all seemed to be too big and clumsy, not to mention expensive. My GH was 2nd hand and because the wind on top of this hill can be quite strong I decided to build in extra bracing - it seemed logical to use the braces as multi-level staging support so they were made from recycled aluminium angle. The top level is suspended from additional roof trusses, the lower and middle have a central al. rod as support and all are bolted to the end frames. The shelving sections are a mixture of baker's trays, fryer wires and al. building cladding cut to size. Simple to insert or remove sections or leave gaps for taller plants to grow through. The high level is excellent for apple cues - they always succumbed to grey rot at ground level, and carrots seem to be out of reach of "the fly" up there.

                          Depends on what you need it for.My tunnel has 18ft x 4ft of staging split into 2 stages of 9ft x 4ft that is attached with hinges to a 2"x2" attached to the hoops with U bolts and suspended with chain from the crop wires. This is lifted when it becomes empty or the crops get tall. Got the idea from a picture on this forum a few years ago. Its made from 1.5"x1" with chicken wire stapled on top. Cost was about £20
