Ok, this is how it goes:

As I can't do owt today due to the bladdy 'ailstone, I'm gonna have a mosey down to L1dl & pick up a couple of bags of there cheapest compost. I'll put down the name & price of it along with 4 photos:

    1) The bag of compost.
    2) Some compost straight out of the bag.
    3) Some compost riddled.
    4) The stuff that has been riddled out.

If anyone "buying MPC this year" fancies joining me, it would be great to compare what we are actually getting.
    Cheers

What do you use the MPC for Bigmallly? I've always used JI for seeds and tubs, and 'hanging basket' compost for baskets as JI is too heavy. Would I be better with MPC in tubs?
    Location - Leicestershire - Chisit-land
    Endless wonder.

It's down to personal choice MH. I use MPC for everything from sowing seeds to potting on to hanging baskets..............The bottom line is I'm just a cheapskate...........

I was having similar thoughts to BM.
While wearing your night clothes, plant cucumbers on the 1st May before the sun comes up, and they will not be attacked by bugs.

              L1dl MPC - £1.29/25lts = 5.16p/lt

              Ok,

              1)....The product.........

              2).....Unsieved.........

              3).....Sieved.........

              4).......Bits over......

              Verdict:
I was really pleased when I 1st opened the bag. Few twigs & no plastic. Even after sieving, there was very little twigs & compressed compost remaining................Very pleased.

                £stretchers Growing Bag - £1.49/25lts = 5.96p/lt

                3)......Sieved........

                4)......Bits over.......

                Verdict:
First impressions was it was the same as Lidls' but on closer examination I found it had longer twigs, small bits of plastic & the odd stone. All in all, not bad, I've seen worse but not quite as good as Lidls.

                  Nice job, BM.

You shouldn't be doing all the work ... can I do the Verve 125L that I bought a couple of weeks ago?

                    New Horizon Organic and Peat Free MPC - £4.99/bag (3 for £12) = 8p/litre

                    1) ..... The Product........

                    2) ..........Unsieved.........

                    3) ........Sieved............

                    4) .........Left overs.........

Verdict - no plastic, the odd twig which wouldn't go through my makeshift riddle (plant pot drainage holes) - no complaints here.

                      B4Q Verve MPC - $6.73/125lts = 5.38p/lt

                      1) The product.

                      2) Unsieved.

                      3) Sieved.

                      4) Bits left over.

Pretty decent, just a few twigs and hard peat lumps in this sample.

I mixed it in with B&Q Verve and a few others for my chillis and peppers last year. They did good. I have 4 other varieties of compost/growbag here I only managed to photograph 2 lots, I'll do the other 3 tomorrow if I get a chance and upload the other one in a bit.
