Gardening is a really dangerous hobby, as well as Legionnaire's Disease (which I thought you caught from contaminated airconditioning systems in public offices/sports centres/hospitals) you can also contract tetanus from the soil (if your jabs aren't up to date), you can cut yourself using sharp tools, you can get urticaria from nettle stings, the list is endless. In the end do you want to live in a cottonwool cocoon, or do you want to live? Take sensible precautions and you should be fine!!

Maybe I should scrub my finger nails a bit better!!!!!!!!!!

I agree lets not worry about what might happen out there in the garden, and enjoy it!

Heres a thought, what about all the chemicals we are eating from mass produced veggies, so growing and eating our own should boost our immune systems, Making US the healthiest bunch, thats without considering the exercise!

Well said. That's the main reason we grow our own now, and buy organic veg from our local farm shop.

To coin a well known phrase "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn". There's probably more chance of being kiled by a low flying duck !

We've had Health Warnings printed on our Potting Mix bags here for years. I think the main problem is breathing in the dust from the mix.
                    I love growing tomatoes.

What a surprise, the Daily Mail trying to scare people - at least it makes a change from them talking about bl**dy Diana!

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Nice to be informed of suck risks and I will be a bit more careful in the future. I know that I have breathed in dust in the past especially with one particular brand which is always on the dry side. One of the reasons for using that brand is that the bags are lighter and easier to carry down to the greenhouse.

Oooer missus - what are they then Tell me more!

I expect the DM mentioned that there is also a risk to house prices from compost and that it either caused by working mothers or single mothers who are on benefits? Sorry to be snidey but if we all stopped doing everything that's 'dangerous' but unlikely then where would we be?

My children have never been ill (apart from chicken pox) and I put it down to a healthy level of dirt in their lives and under their finger nails
