  • courgette black beauty

I grew black beauty courgettes last year and they did fairly well but a couple of them grew over the path instead of across the bed and I'm sure I read somewhere that you can tell which direction the courgette will grow by looking at the first true leaf.
Does anyone know how this works ?

    Yes.

The direction that the first true leaf points is opposite to the direction that it will trail.

I purposely let mine trail across the path, keeps the fruit cleaner, and makes it easier for me to harvest them.

Thanks Zaz - I didn't know that and will try and remember it when I plant my courgettes out this year.

Thanks Zaz my first true leaves have just opened so I've moved the plant labels to opposite them.

Good tip! I'm trying to have some control over direction this year as I'm underplanting my pole beans with courgettes.
