  • Forking Tomatoes - 2012

That caught your eye, didn't it! I was going to write Bifurcating but couldn't spell it!!
One of my donated tomatoes (thank you VVG), Costoluto Fiorentino, has forked at the top. Should I leave it or take out one of the forks? If I leave it and treat it as a bush tomato, should I also leave the sideshoots to grow on instead of nipping them out?

I read something somewhere about this happening to someone and he treated each of the 2 branches as separate tomato plants and was quite successful with it.

    Mind, I am a newb.

Think I would do as Ashkat suggests. Nip out the other sideshoots though.

I usually allow (OK, find I have) two, three, four serious branches in my indeterminates. I don't think this is a problem.

I think they're a semi determinate ie can't make up their mind - that's what I've always found in the past when I've grown them anyway.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I've found these types often fork. My black krim always do and I think the Costs do too. I just leave them to it.

My Stupice and Armish Paste are doing this but only in one part of the tunnel so maybe there is a bit of an environmental effect, too. The ones that are doing it are in what is the windier corner when the door is open and probaly the coolest corner. The Ruby that is in among them isn't doing this.

Thanks for the thread VC, I was thinking I must have done something wrong!
