  • Just bought a new polytunnel!!!!

Was £54 from ebay. Free postage too! 4.5m by 2m by 2m. What a good deal! It's one of those green ones not a clear/whitish coloured one. Willl let you all know if it's any good when I get it. He has sold loads though, so that's a good sign Am in process of looking at the too many seeds I have bought, I definitely don't have enough windowsills for seedlings though .... So this'll be the perfect solution. Roll on warmer weather so I can get started!!! Big Grin!

I bought one last week and arrived the next day. Sounds the same as yours, but mine wasn't off ebay. I haven't had chance to put it up yet though. Will hopefully do it at some point in the week.

make sure you put it in a shaded place, i bought one year before last almost same and it got destroyed, i mean, totally obliterated in high winds... so pick the spot carefully, good luck with it

Thanks Lisa. We've discussed digging a trench round it to anchor it - not going to trust the little rivets provided! Also going to put a plank in the front of the door with copper wire on top to try and stop slugs - hey, it might work!

Hi. To help keep my polytunnel secure, I used cut down scaffold poles. These were bashed down into the ground around 18 inches deep. One in each corner. Then the corners of the poly were secured by drilling through scaffold pole and poly pole and secured with a nut and bolt. Worked for me!

Do you mean a sheltered place or shaded? If it's shaded you could have trouble with some crops, eg tomatoes as these do need the sun to ripen, as we all found out last year, when there was none.

yeah, sorry i meant sheltered, i just re-read than and realised it sounded like i meant from the sun, but no, you're right i meant from the winds.... I got a greenhouse last year and we have made a trellis fence panel barracade in front of it to prevent the greenhouse taking the full brunt of the wind, we live on the edge of a hill top and it well blasts us

I've been watching these for a while, there is a one on a neighbouring plot and it seems to be standing up ok. One thing I have noticed is that they have braced it inside with batons of timber. One along the full length of the roof and one from every corner from chest height to the floor. Might be worth a try to protect your outlay.

Does anyone have any pictures of how they braced their polytunnel, my plot is really windy too.

OOh I'm a bit mad! Parcel service turned up, and even though I asked for them to leave it with my neighbours as I would not be in... They didn't! So now my poly is in a warehouse somewhere.... They are supposed to re-deliver tomorrow to my neighbours.... fingers crossed...

The poly tunnel is up! Hurrah! I got in from work and hubs had been busy in the garden, we now have two water butts (recycled green bins!) complete with taps and a runner thingy which connects the two together. They've been put on top of some concrete blocks so I can get a watering can underneath. Poly tunnel looking brilliant actually. It's big enough for us both to stand upright in (he's 6ft1) and looks really well made. It has netted vented winows down the side with amesh covering to stop nasties flying in. Really pleased
