  • Next years cabbage white defences

After reading and seeing all the troubles and damage this little creature causes I decided to set about building an easily take apart and therefore moveable frame, which I can move from one raised bed to another

Its still fairly basic so hopefully the pics will explain.

They are two different sizes the blue one is made using 2m debris netting and the green one 3m debris netting the taler one i intend to use for brussels and purple sprouting,I could have made the all 3m but i strarted with the 2m

    The beds are approx 4ft x 10ft and 4ft x 12 ft

The "rope" at the base is bungee strap, its this that makes it easily to gain access and to totally remove. Its just threaded through the holes and others I made at the ends, a few hooks hold it down.I can easily open it and close in under 30 seconds

I used copper pipe as it makes the structure much more stable than just pushing it into the ground, but its not essential

    Any questions just ask

What an excellent idea and decorative too

I help out at a garden group and our cabbages and caulis are doing OK now, but even with fleece there was plenty of caterpillar damage. I think your method sounds a good one to try next year.

I think i'll try that next year....Thanks Pies xx. With copper round the bottom it might even keep some of the dreaded slug's out..ye ha.

They look good I've enough cloche hoops and enviromesh to cover 3 beds now, but they really aren't high enough for the taller growing sprouts and PSB, so I'm going to attempt to build a proper frame for next year.
