  • Peppers turning black

i have a few pepper plants, they are the italian roasting variety.

They have been doing really well, but i have noticed they are turning black, and idea what is causing this.

Are they turning black in a particular area? Ie on the bottom?

Are they black peppers when ripe? Grew some one year that were. If the black is in streaks could be rot and they have been providing homes for earwigs.

Many pepper go through green >black> red in the ripening process, so if they look healthy, apart from the colour, they're probably ok

I wondered if it was blossom end rot, however I had a couple of large chillis that went soft.

If they look healthy then there is probably no problem, as Thelma said some peppers go through a bit of a black stage. The black should look smooth and sort of glossy .

They look OK to me. Do you have a variety name?

They look fine to me too. No earwigs living in there!

Thank you for posting this, you've put my mind at ease as I have some going black too but they look healthy so it's obviously a colour before they go red, thanks a lot
