  • What I foraged today!

This is a thread for us to record what we have picked in the wild and how we will use it. Please add to it as a record of what is available freely at various times of the year.
    More information is at http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...oraging-6.html

Two pounds of wild plums from a cluster of small trees, probably suckers from the first tree. Near a railway line so perhaps grown from a plum stone thrown from a train window.
These small plums are sweet enough to eat when ripe and I will turn the rest into Plum jam.
The soil is basically sand, its on the edge of sand dunes, but this public land has apples, sloes, hazelnuts and hawthorn. Horseradish and wild mint too. One of my favourite foraging spots!

Went to my "usual" foraging tree for wild yellow plums in Blaenavon last week - not one plum on there! Last year picked over 7 pounds and there was still loads left on the tree for others. So yesterday I tried another spot I go to near Rudry - managed to pick all of 16 yellow plums
This year has been a bad one for plums/damsons. So there will be no Wild Plum and Ginger jam for me, sadly.

Horse Mushrooms - bigguns - at the stables, when I'm poo-picking.

I don't eat 'em, but my Dad loves 'em!

I'm no expert on sloes but I'd say now is too early. Were there lots of them on these bushes - or just a handful?

2 'n a bit kilos of blackberries, currently wining away in a bin. Despite a valiant effort, however, I couldn't get to the damson tree I can just see through the fence of my allotment- it's got a determined protective bramble fence.

                            Oh, and one solitary elderberry.
