  • Finally managed to identify species of Ants infesting my Garden

European Red Ants (Fire Ants), Got stung again yesterday-- I thought they were spraying Formic acid, but they do sting and have no fear of any living thing.
War has been declared, they have got to go.
I left one fruit tree untouched from my chemical warfare--they were on the blossom, taking the pollen.( I only do the base of the fruit trees. I will never do anything to the blossom)
They apparently (I can well believe it) not only farm aphids & your trees end up with many more than they would collect in the normal course of a season, but they kill just about any living insect they come across.(seems with the possible exception of woodlice?)
Normally I would live and let live, but not this time.
    WAR

Feed the soil, not the plants.

I get these little hexagonal boxes from Morrisons called ant stop. They probably sell them in other shops. You just pull the tab out and put them where the ants are. I put them at the base of my fruit trees. And the ants just go! You have to make sure you don't wet them with the hose and that's it. Can recommend them as they really do work and you don't have to go about spraying stuff! Thought you could add these to your arsenal!
You may say I'm a dreamer... But I'm not the only one...

I'm an official nutter - an official 'cropper' of a nutter! I am sooooo pleased to be a cropper! Hurrah!
