    **Hedgehog Alert!!!!**

    Just wanted to remind peeps to check under any bonfires before lighting them

    Bonfire night ...... and later on with garden/lottie rubbish.

    Thank you- it only takes a minute to check

        Don't see hedgehogs anywhere near as much as when I was a boy. Very rare round these parts. Shame.

            A couple of years ago we accidentally disturbed a hedgehog nest (under the hedge, of course), but near the road, there was a mother and four little ones. Called the local HH expert who advised to put them and their nesting material in a big cardboard box and take it somewhere safe. (we have a large back garden - ideal) - All seemed OK, but we found one youngster all covered with lice and maggots, took it to the Vet, fearing that it would have to be put down. After a sleepless night called the Vet, - Well, they said SHE is alright now, we've caled her Cheryl, and the Vet will take her home to her home in the N. York Moors, not far away, and make sure she is OK. - The others, mum and three siblings just disappeared into our garden, so it seems that it ended happily!!

              We hand reared four baby hedgehogs, whose mum had died a couple of years ago. For me they are the cutest of the cute in the baby world. It was the most intensive month of my life (they were very young), with feeds all through the night. My children also got up to help-dropper feeds take forever; on my own I think I'd just have been finishing number four when number one wanted feeding again. We had super help from our local vets and an appeal to my school community for old towels was so well rewarded I'm still using them. They all survived and despite two really vicious winters, at least two of them are still around. These two are fearless and, given purchase, quite remarkable climbers. The one in the picture had hauled him or herself up a hay bale and over the ledge onto the platform to share with our cats after it had emptied its own bowl.
