    midges AAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHH

    I don't know if this is the correct section (sorry mods) but they are wildlife
    I know they have to feed but why only on me I hove more bites on me than skin,
    i have tried everything insect repellent, citronella, eating garlic by the bucket,even standing under the hose, how do i get these little sods to bite something else or just to go away?

    You do have my sympathy - I find I get bitten mainly in the evening so try to wear long sleeves and trousers bit difficult with the hot weather. But I had to laugh - I misread your post and read 'even standing under the hose' as horse....It's getting late...

            I also use the SSS dry oil, in fact I have just ordered a 'batch' of it cheaply on the world's favourite auction site. This year, despite the fact I am allergic to bites and stings, and appear to be high on the menu of most flying, stinging, biting creatures, I am wearing SHORTS! I'm hoping that the sight of my fat white hairy legs is enough to frighten them away!

            I would advise a visit to your Doctor. I have a prescription for extra strength antihistamine (Fexofenadine hydrochloride) which works well. Being a gardener, with an allergy, I only have to phone up, and they leave them out ready for me! Still have to pay though..

              Round here everyone seems to love Smidge ( The Scottish Midge Forecast ). Although if you're gardening and therefore staying in the same place for a long time I think the only solution is a midge jacket ( such as Beaton's Midge Jackets - about our jackets ).

              They don't tend to bother me when they're biting so I just get on with things, and then regret it two days later when I notice the itching

                We are going up to Scotland later in the year and I was worried about the midges up there. Looks like I'm going to have to find an Avon lady

                  A few years back my OH and I went up to Ullapool and en route saw workmen wearing mesh covering whilst working outdoors. I presume protecting them from midges?

                  I presume that because we couldn't find a B&B one night and slept in the car with the windows ajar.

                  I think we were the original definition of the term 'Meals on Wheels'

                  Here's a few piccies of the sort of thing they were wearing

                  Beaton's Midge Jackets - about our jackets

                  not sure how sweaty they would be though????

                    I could try standing under a horse, but he might get the wrong idea uughhhh doesn't bear thinking about lol, easy enough mistake to make with tired eyes lol

                      That is a really really good idea. They seem to be made of netting so would presume they are breathable ? Thats where my beer money is going next week (be handy for camping too) Thanks Nicos & Big Jim :0)

                        BigJim-sorry you beat me to it!

                        I wonder if you can get an all in one too so peeps can wear shorts? I'm sure the guys I saw working by the side of the road had all-in-one suits in black mesh.

                        jono- if you do get one, will you let us know how you get on with it?- pros and cons???

                          Suddenly, after years of having no trouble they are really hurting when they bite!

What I want to know is is there one that really works with sun screen in it? - Slightly worried about frying in the sun. Any time the wind drops here, all they midges on the Preselis pop in for a visit, whatever the time of day.
