It is but not in our climate. It will not be able to self seed itself here, due to late flowering it is. So has to be treated as an annual.

Don 't know why but I feel wary of this plant!
If it does do what it says on the tin then It's a fantastic answer to those weeds!
I suppose I am concerned that if it's thuggish enough to tackle some of our persistent weeds then what would it do in the wild?
It does say it's a zone 9 plant...ie down to -7C ...but most of the Uk is Zone 8 so it would survive!

Bit confusing to be honest..espesh when respected gardeners are endorsing it

Don't get me wrong....it sounds a wonderful plant, with many uses!

Thats what I thought as well Nicos plus it grows to 6ft tall so will cause a lot of shade. think I'll give it a miss.

Nicos, I've no doubt that it was respected gardeners who brought us most of the invasive (non-native) plant species that we already have

It's an interesting plant, there's quite a few details in the Invasive Species Compendium, here: Invasive Species Compendium | Tagetes minuta

Judging by the distribution map, we'd need quite a bit of global warming before it would be happy here. Although given that each plant produces 39,000 seeds it would be a bit of a weed problem if it ever got going properly. No wonder it can out-compete Ground Elder!

I've grown it, it was pretty hopeless: it is huge, and so far to big to be of any use in the brassica cage. I wouldn't bother again

and no, it doesn't spread in the UK, it's very tender and just dies off in the winter

Tagetes minuta

Hi all,
I'm new to the forum but not to gardening. I look forward to swapping knowledge with you green fingered fold!
I am interested in using Tagetes minuta, the "miracle" plant that supposedly kills eel work and other parasites and also many perennial weeds.
Has anyone had much experience with it? I grow a lot of perrenial veg and I'm not sure what it does and doesn't affect. I don't want to accidentally kill my Jerusalem artichokes or something! Any advice?

Hi and welcome to the vine.

Just to let you know I grew them for two years (ground elder and bind weed) and although it stopped them spreading it didn't kill them. Oh and they grow absolutely huge (I think mine were around 5ft tall 2-3ft wide) then I gave them the chop.
