    Dahlia Grow list for 2020 and your favourites

    I grew quite a few last year and had some fab cut flowers.
    Unfortunately I haven't had time to lift them all and some that I did lift in October were already mushy. It can get very wet here after super dry summers and the tubers ding always cope with the extremes. I don't water my garden.
    Anyway, I'm going to treat myself to a couple more varieties I would like somemore ball type...maybe in oranges? I've lots of pink and burgundy's at the moment. Any one have any favourites?

    I've half a dozen or more of Bishops children grown from seed last year. Amazed at how big the tubers are.

    Cornel Bronze
    Happy Halloween - I lost this one last year

    Jescot Julie - I've not had much luck with this one but I will try again

    #UPDATE -My New order! got my wishes and a few others. Unfortunately lots of the Pom poms were already out of stock on the PN site so I just chose a random section and also fancied the David Howard after Mcdoods post. Would also like a couple that Thelma posted but they were sold out.

    I've lifted the ones in the garden, because the soil here stays wet and it's a bit of a frost pocket, my allotment is at the top of the hill, soil there drains better and frost rolls down the slope, so I've left those in with fingers crossed..

      I just received the SR catalogue but I won't buy from there. The photos are nice to browse though

        I also have a number of saved Bishops Children that I like and have now grown for a couple of years.
        I think there's only a couple of pompom/ball types in this list and nothing I could highly recommend tbh, I do have a pompom seed mix and given the success I had with the Bishops Children I might give these a go this year.

        Oranges I have and like - David Howard is a very good plant. I also love Caribbean Fantasy (maybe more beige than orange) but have not yet managed to overwinter it. HS Date a lovely orange single. You already have Totally Tangerine and Bishop of Oxford, although I prefer my saved Bishop Orange to Oxford, because I made it

        I seem to remember Peter Nyssen is a decent online site for Dahlia tubers but the site looks to be broken atm. National Dahlia Collection sell tubers and cuttings and is a nice place to window shop.
        I have in the past also got decent tubers from garden suppliers on ebay, and always worth a look in the poundshops/wilko type shops to save the wizened (but cheap) stock they have

          Yes, I look in SR catalogue for varieties I like the look of and then find them elsewhere to buy, either P Nyssen or have had some from the Dahlia Society as already mentioned, in the past.
          I've ordered twice from SR and each time have had to complain about the quality of the tubers/bulbs that I received. They were replaced pretty quickly but it makes me wary of buying from there again, sad but true..

            I was planning on lifting a lot of mine, but what with having the flu + a number of other things going on they are all still on the ground which is saturated - hardly any frost to speak of though, so some may survive.

              I bought a cheap mystery unnamed load at end of season, hoping some might do ok.

              We are going to try some more seeds this year, especially Bishops children.

              DD loves the ball/Pom Pom ones but we’ve had zero success with the last two years tubers.

                  Gone a bit mad this year, had to stop myself from ordering more. Have gone for a good mix of decorative, cactus and water lily types. Giving them their own dedicated beds this year

                        Not a great look , fingers crossed for those still in the ground. September/October this year was very wet.
