    How Do Nasturtiums Climb?

    I have plated out some nasturtiums (Trapaeoleum) and erected a 'wigwam' structure with lots of string attached.

    I note that they don't have tendrils. So, how do they cling to the frame I've built? Will I have to keep tying them?

    Make sure you have the climbing variety. Some don't climb at all.

          I was just womdering exactly how they'd climb without tendrils. I've grown many different climbers over the years, but have not tried nasturtiums.

              They don't have tendrils, they wind around the cane, a bit like a climbing bean.

              I bought some seeds to grow a few nasturtiums as a bed edging at my lottie. I hadn't read the packet properly (cautionary tale!) and they found my bean frames and climbed up. Riot of colour though!

                      I find that I have to tie them in to get started (up the bird table post and the clothes post - actually dead tree trunks) otherwise they wander off to somewhere completely unsuitable.
