Some Wood Sorrel I found in the forest the other day, I nearly put the picture in the herb thread, but having eaten some I think it's better to look at than to eat.
" a perennial which is native, occurring only locally in Britain as far north as Westmorland, and in Jersey. It only grows on chalky short grassland, cliffs and clifftops, with a greater concentration in the South. "
Grows in Kincardinshire(now part of Aberdeenshire) VC and you're right it likes chalky soil, also grows on the Gower in Wales amongst a couple of others, but is absent from Ireland. Kidney Vetch is very much a coastal plant and my picture was taken some distance inland. seems all the Hippocrepis and the lotus corniculatus all look very similar(I use David Lang's book for my id), he also states that Kidney Vetch tends to flower later, from June onwards, so that also aided my id of the plant, I'm no expert, so I 'll stick with egg and bacon description.
A wild red poppy self sown from seeds I sowed years ago, I even have them in the greenhouse this year
A yellow Welsh poppy for those from the other side of the Severn
