My red cabbage plants have long stems, about six inches and very thick. Growing tall and huge leaves, is this normal ?

I got very large outer leaves and finally some heart in a couple. Then again it's winter here.Ali

First time I've managed to get red cabbage beyond the seedling stage and I've potted on twice before I put them in the raised bed on Sunday. I noticed a decent sized stalk, but I was glad as it will help to keep the slimy things off. Hope they take off like yours gordon, mine are red drumhead too.Granny on the Game in Sheffield

My red drumhead are a small neat variety and won't be hearting up until the autumn, I usually harvest just before the first frosts and also put a few in the tunnel at the same time which will be ready in the spring.
Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.
Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
