Butternut maybe?

Just to see if they would grow, I planted some seeds from a butternut squash and they germinated! much to my surprise, have now planted out in allotment, about 18 inches apart, and wonder if planting some sweet corn plants between them would be an idea or not?

Am thinking that if nothing much happens with the squash, then I could use the space around them

I am trying squash between my corn this year. Go for it!

you *might* run into problems if your BNS was grown in S Africa or the like as your garden might be too cold and wet for it. Also, if it was an F1 variety (and who would know?) then it might not grow true to form and you could end up with something interesting!!!

However, I grew Halloween pumpkins from seed saved from an Asda carving pumpkin last year and it was the only pumpkin I got out of all my careful plantings (thanks, slugs) so who know??!!

I did the same and was really surprised that they germinated. I have a few in the PT and some in the garden. Just expecting that they'll grow massive and not produce anything - worth the experiment though.

My BNS did fine in open ground down in Sussex in a so-so summer, so I expect they'll do well in Kent too. Good luck!
