Last week I saw a bush full of sloes and they looked pretty black to me... anyone think it is near time yet?

Not unless your area is uncomonly early. Look closer and you will probably find they are black on one side and pretty green on the other (that's what they are like around here).

I still have a demi-john (or demi god, if you are Zazen!) of Blackberry Brandy, and one of Damson Vodka, sitting in the corner of the bedroom. They've been there since last September or October, and still have the fruit in!

              Maybe I'll 'sort it' tomorrow!

Should be about ready, ya think!!!?

Has anyone tried making pacharan with Pastis? How did it go? Did you use sugar or not? I have 70cl of Pastis and a load of sloes in the freezer ready to go!

I have finished a bottle of Fruit Tea bag wine. It was far too sweet for my taste but thankfully I got used to it.

I have, sitting on the shelf awaiting straining day
Strawberry vodka, 1 small bottle (could do it now, but I'll leave it until we get back from Spain)
Mango vodka 2 small jars, should end up with nearly a litre (should be ready when we get back from Spain)
Damson gin, small amount (hopefully ready before Christmas)
Sloe gin, should make at least a litre, maybe 1½ (going to leave it until New Year at least).
If I see any other cheap fruit that looks suitable, there will be more to come!
My little tricks are things no recipe book would dare publish (on health/hygiene grounds), but they DO work, they DO speed things up, and we've never had any ill effects from drinking the results!

I made Cherry Vodka this year.
MIL has cherry tree, we picked 50lbs of cherries!! so obviously some had to be used for medicinal purposes

                            400g cherries, slit not stoned
                            200g sugar
100ml of water (or less if you dont want to water to vodka down too much!)

Bring to boil, until sugar dissolved and cherries start to ooze juice.
Tip everything into a jar or bottle
                            Add 70cl Vodka

                            Leave for a month..... divine.....

Also great tip.... stick it in the freezer the day before drinking, it makes a great shot.
Oh and added to coke it makes a very convincing cherry coke but with a zing!
                            Little ol' me

                            Has just bagged a Lottie!
Oh and the chickens are taking over my garden!

Last year we made pacharan with ouzo:

                              Pacharan recipe

                              70cl ouzo (or anisette)
                              300g sloes
200g sugar (leave out if using anisette, it's sweet and ouzo isn't)
                              2 sticks (4") cinnamon

Leave for about 8 months (its left longer than sloe gin).

Added sugar because ouzo isn't sweet and anisette is. Is Pastis sweet, if not add sugar.

I am waiting for my Prohibition Vodka/Whisky and bacardi to do what it has to do. When I bottle the vodka I plan to drop in a couple a star anise. Nothing ventured nothing gained.
