      Good to hear your progress MissyMoo. I've been giving my blackberry whiskey a shake every now and then - it's looking good! Was going to try the chilli vodka for my OH but he didn't sound too keen!...... DDL

        Success!

        Very exciting weekend. The Lemon Verbena Vodka was finally ready to be strained and tasted.

        mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm and more yummy noises like that.

        It's like the necter of the gods. It's very much a liqueur now, really sweet, thicker to pour and with the most delicious lemony taste to it. Perfect for a before dinner aperitif or an after dinner drink.

        Highly recommend every one getting about 10 lemon verbena bushes for next year cause this stuff is great!

          It sounds lovely MM! I keep shaking my whiskey when I go into the cupboard. Am being to be a good girl though and will save it until Christmas! The recipe didnt say whether it needed straining but nearer the time may put it though a sieve to get out the blackberries........then will need the blackberry ice cream recipe! DDL

            I made a couple of bottles of Sloe Gin and Sloe Vodka about a month back which are coming along nicely. Started some Drambuie today. Now wondering about trying a Rose/Rosehip liqueur. Can't find any recipes for any so it's going to be a home experiment I think. Dunno which spirit would be best. Vodka I guess.
            If Earthbabe's about can you remind me what spirit your Hawthorn berry liqueur uses? I'm going foraging tomorrow....
            Maybe could do a mix of the hips and haws!

                  It was really easy Ugly Gourd. Picked some leaves off the bush, put them in a bottle, poured in the Vodka, added sugar and left for about four weeks, shaking the bottle every day or two till the sugar disolved.
                  Then strain, rebottle and drink!!!

                  Further up the thread there's a link I posted to the original recipe. That should give you exact amounts and times etc.

                  Hmmm this reminds me, i think i noticed the verbana bush had a whole new crop of leaves just sitting there........

                        Have decanted the whiskey into a bottle but havent tried it yet! Going to have a tasting session on new years eve! will let you know how I get on. Dexterdog PS how is everyone elses booze coming along, or going down?!!

                          Ooooh twas an exciting moment just before Christmas when we decanted and tasted for the first time (quality control you understand!!)

                          We had both the blackberry whisky and vodka and we strained the berries out with a muslin cloth. Then we ran the liquid through the cloth several times to ensure it was clear.
                          We were going to keep the berries for future consumption but when we tasted them they were incredibly bitter and so they went to the heap.

                          At this point it was hard to tell the two apart as I had forgotten to label the bottles however once we tasted them all was clear. The whisky is very, very drinkable. It is initially really fruity with a deeper whisky taste, very sweet and slides down much too easily!!
                          The vodka is more alcoholic in it's taste (as was the toffee vodka) but leaves you with a berry aftertaste. Also very nice and easy to drink.

                          Over all I am rather pleased with the results as were those who recieved some as christmas pressents. I think this year will see me experimenting with other berries!!!

                            I have a confession to make! Although I decanted my blackberry whiskey - never actually got chance to have a taste! So I've got two half bottles of blackberry whiskey ready and waiting. Did keep the berries to put in some ice cream, but will only do a small bit, following your advice. Dexterdog

                              Oh, what a scrummy thread !

                              I've got some Damson Brandy mashing since October-ish last year....
                              and I'm hugely excited for the year ahead now since reading all your postings on Lemon Verbena and Berry concoctions. I had only used the Lemon Verbena Leaves to infuse some riccotta puddings before now, with a Lemon Verbena Syrup, so now I know what to do with the rest of the leaves !!
