  • Foxey Wine

My wife and I visit many beer festivals, she likes to sample "new" brews.
I fancy making her a new wine , not seen before.
I note we have a good crop of Fox Gloves this year and wondered as to the possibilties. I don't seem to be able to find recipies for Fox Glove wine, a pity because the flowers are so pretty.

    Any recipies ????

Not sure I would advise using foxgloves for wine making - they are poisonous

Heart medication - Digoxin is derived from Foxgloves, Digitalis. Don't think making wine from it is a good idea

I would steer WELL away from foxgloves. The reason you don't see recipes for them is that the active ingredient, used in heart medication, is pretty nasty stuff. In wild plants, you really don't know how much there is in the plant.

So it would be a case of
"The pellet with the poison's in the vessel with the pestle, the chalice from the palace has the brew that is true.

There are plants which are mainly poisonous, but the flowers can be used for wine. Not sure foxgloves qualify. I would agree, don't chance it.
BTW, I thought the line was "the vessel with the pestle has the potion with the poison...", but that is from memory of watching the film many years ago<g>
