It had already fermented a bit before we could measure. The idea was about 4oz sugar dissolved in as small an amount of water as possible, to give maybe half-a-pint (not much space for more).
I just wanted to be sure it would be strong enough to keep well!

I did wonder if it had been fermenting already when you took the SG, it shouldnt have changed very much unless it hit the ground running so to speak, your 4oz solution should bring it up to 12%ish,you really ought to treat yourself to a new bible (CJJB)(all bow before the dark lord of the carboy) mines not that old and has a £5:99 sticker on it, looking forward to blackberry picking time, theres blossom everywhere and some green fruits already, going for 10gal so will need 40lb, must get industrial size tub of Savlon for the scratches.

I got given some frozen blackberries by a friend who is a compulsive blackberry picker, and was running out of freezer space for other purposes<g>

So glad I just found this thread again, completely forgot what I used to make it, but I have to say when I tried it the other night... I kinda got tipsy very quickly, ok I got bladdered and was asleep by 9pm!

I think I drank about a litre of it (2/3 left in a 3L pop bottle) and was very fruity and but didn't taste like the paint stripper when I first bottled it. Deffo best left to sit for a few months I think.

Let's see if I can try again without making it too sweet this time round.
