  • drum for press

Our homemade apple press works well but now we are thinking of improvements for next year. We really like the idea of using a cylinder and pushing all the pulp through... we have seen some good ones on you-tube using an old musical drum.

I am stuck for ideas on finding something cylindrical and not tapered at one end... any ideas?

    Thanks

Seen the same video, going to try freecycle and see if any one wants to give one away. I've been trawling the boot sales and markets for a bottle jack, do you think i can find one

I'm afraid I can't help but I've just watched all 4 videos on You-tube and it's fascinating, thank you for pointing it out.
Just off now to see if I can find a drum and bottle jack

Thanks, but for me a least the idea of doing it your self is to do it as cheaply as possible. I could go out and buy a press, crusher and everything else i need but then it would take several years to make it financially worth while. Besides I'll enjoy making the press. If i cant get hold of a drum I'll just make it square.

How about a washing machine drum? You can get any amount of those from recycling (tip).

We currently use a chopping board pressing the juice into a roasting tin with hole for tube. It works, but think the drum and squish it all at once will defo be better. Pics on the blog.
