  • Novice brewer - with an inherited apple tree.

    Hello all

I've recently just moved into a new house that has a nice apple tree, I'd like to use the apples this month and turn them into a homemade cider/apple wine/applejack.......(hehe)

I assume i'll have to press, sterilise and bottle the brew. If anyone can suggest a list of equipment or point in the direction of a good shop i'd be very grateful.

If anyone has any extra advice to impart i'd appeciate it

    Many Thanks

    Duronal.

Have a look at this thread http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...der_37566.html there's some links on there to some other cider making threads too
The most important bits of kit you'll need are a fermeting bucket (or 2), a tub of steriliser and a long wooden spoon. Also handy; syphon tube, large funnel, plastic sieve, bottles and caps/barrel/sterilised plastic pop bottles.

We get our brewing stuff from either 'Hamstead Brewing Centre' or 'Art of Brewing' website. Both good service but the first is generally cheaper.

thank you for the link sarwiz.

Does anyone know if you could use the apple wine method of juice extraction to make a cider? Or is the difference between the two methods the concentration of the apple juice?
