  • Blackberry Gin anyone?

There seems to be a lot of interest at the moment in Sloe Gin and Damson Gin but has anyone made Blackberry Gin?

I would guess you need less fruit because it has more juice and less sugar because the fruit is not so sour

A friend made a very successfull Raspberry Gin last year but not sure of proportions

I made it 2 years ago. Can't remember the proportions: prolly just the same as Sloe Gin.

What can go wrong? It's gin

It would be fun tasting and adjusting for the next month or two! I would think blackberries would take to vodka as it won't impart a flavour of its own. I once found a tree with white elderberries (white when ripe, a little like white currants. ) That made fantastic berry brandy!

Yep made some, blackberry gin is very nice. As is blackberry brandy...and sloe brandy.

Just use a 'sloe gin recipe', maybe a bit less sugar, depends on your blackberries...you can always add some more sugar after a couple of weeks.

          blackberrys and shop bought spirit

Can't see a problem as blackberries round here are sweet so no need to add sugar. You will need to wash the berries and squash them in Vodka or gin, allow to settle under air lock then pour off liquour. Drink responsibly ,

Would be far better value to make wine then place it in the freezer, then pour off the liquor but then this would be illegal as you are not paying the goverment its duty

Made blackberry bacardi earlier in the year, not sure how much sugar I used but it was a bit syrupy for me but OH loved it and drank it like pop!

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I made blackberry gin last year - easy recipe made by making a blackberry syrup, straining it then adding it to the gin. It is VERY tasty and does age very nicely... Also very useful for medicinal purposes!

Just bunged a load of squished brambles (the lumps left over from making Bramble jelly) with a bottle or two of gin into a gurt big jar (£1:99 charity shop job). I added a bit of sugar when I noticed there were quite a few slivers of lemon rind in the gloop. I added a few drops of almond extract (although I've seen a recipe where it calls for cinamon stick).

Trouble is, if it is gooood, I'll never be able to duplicate the recipe! Cheers, Tony.

We made blackberry vodka years ago -since we'd run out of gin! I seem to remember it was very good!

I have made blackberry gin, same as damson : fill jar with berries, bout quarter fill with sugar then fill with gin.
Strain the blackberries off after a few weeks or you will have a woody flavour.
                          Delicious ........

I think the Germans have the right idea, Rumtopft!, as the seasons progress you add a layer of fruit in season and cover with rum, by Christmas the liqour is drinkable and the fruit makes deadly trifles.
