    As you know we've got our new allotment a couple of weeks ago. We have a 18ft or 6m row mature Blackcurrant bushes. Other than the usual jams, pies and puddings, can Blackcurrant Cordial be made using the berries, does anyone have any recipes?

    Home made blackcurrant cordial

    1) Put fruit in bowl and crush with wooden spoon
    2) Add about half pint water to each pound of fruit.
    3) Cook slowly, crushing occasionally with spoon.
    4) Strain through sieve.
    5) Add one pound sugar to each pint juice.
    6) Cool, and store in sterilized bottles, in the fridge.
    7) Add hot or cold water when you want to drink it.
    8) It will store safely for about 2 weeks if kept in the fridge.

          We have a lot of blackcherries on our lottie too. In fact, I THINK I posted a similar question to yours, last year.

          You can also use the leaves I believe. Even if you choose not to, they smell wonderful if you're working near them.

          I used most of our to make blackcherry yoghurt, jam etc. and some cordial type stuff that I used to make Kir Royales (delish).

          I might have a bash at wine this year too - they're heavy croppers so hopefully will have lots to use up!

            Try blackcurrant vodka, absolutely beautiful.
            Make in the same way as Sloe gin.

            I heard you can make something alcoholic out of the leaves, using vodka as well, but I didn't have any, so I used gin.
            I've just had a look at the bottle I made..... back in 2006 apparently and it's still undrunk..... which should tell you something interesting.
            It still smells like cough mixture and I haven't been desperate enough to drink it yet, not advised.
