  • Blackberry Brandy

Recipe for blackberry brandy. Buy bottle of brandy, drink just over half, add blackberries to remainder leaving room for sugar.(not too much sugar) can add more to taste later.Give bottle a turn or shake now and then. A couple of months later strain and it should be ready. Also have some wonderful raspberry gin but can`t drink much more than half a pint of this. Recipe similar to sloe gin but a bit less sugar. What can I make different this year.

Yay, Mick - you passed your first test as a new grape! Thanks for this recipe - Aldi will be visited tomorrow for some cheap brandy.
Different this year - and maybe your second challenge as a new grape? Rhubarb schnapps - try the search button and see what you come up with!!
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

        Oh -yum!!

Blackberry vodka is just the same recipe but with vodka!
Nice and refeshing with added soda water at lunchtime!.

I tend to add my sugar at the end cos sometimes I've found the fruit sweeter than previous years.

Will certainly give that a go! - cheers

Must confess to not putting any sugar in my blackberry brandy, but still tasted gorgeous.
Good use of a vile weed that I pull up yearly in my garden and it still comes back with a vengance.

I made Blackberry Whisky for Christmas pressies a couple of years ago...sadly I still couldn't stand the whisky smell but all recipients said it was good

Can you believe it'll soon be time to be starting them off again

I have two Demi-Johns on the go. One has Blackberry Brandy in, and the other has Damson Vodka. They've been in since about Sept/Oct last year, and I keep forgetting to bottle it!

It will be delish - I can tell!

Made rhubarb schnapps, raspberry vodka, berry bacardi and damson gin last year and they were all mighty tasty

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Just waiting for the over-ripe strawberries season. If I can get some really cheap because they are over-ripe, they get a gentle 'bruising, then go in a big jar with about half (or a bit less) the weight of sugar, and in the fridge for a week (you can even use slightly mouldy ones, if you up the sugar a bit). The sugar draws out all the flavour and colour as a syrup, and kills off most bacteria and such,
Strain the syrup (squeezing the fruit a bit to get as much juice as poss, but not too much, you don't want anything ELSE coming through the muslin) then mix 1 part strawberry syrup to 2 parts vodka.
I always use sugar to extract the flavour for liqueurs, it speeds up the whole process, and I like fruity liqueurs sweet....

I`m not sure I can afford all the booze I will need to buy. I wan`t to try all of
these but will have to settle for a couple of new ones with my favourites.

I've made Sloe gin, Sloe vodka, Blackberry brandy but my favourite so far is damson vodka, am going to try gooseberry vodka as soon as i find some gooseberries. Hoping to surpass all of these with my Seville orange gin though. Had a few seville oranges left over from my marmalade making in january so added the finely pared rind from 4 or 5 oranges half a pound of sugar and a few cloves to a large bottle of gin, it looks and smells fantastic, but apparently is best left for 3 years !

Oooo yummy...why have I only just seen this thread...where has it been hiding?
I've got a bottle of vodka (not a big fan of it), I'll try the raspberry's in it...might even pop a vanilla pod in for good measure.

I have Vodka drinking visitor coming in August...so I think she'll like this one

Just bear in mind that you don't need good quality spirits for these brews. Supermarket own brand ones are fine, given that they will be mixed with fruit and sugar.

I'm using Sainsbury's own brand vodka. Do you think you'd get away with the Basics version? Has anyone tried it?
