Ginger beer help needed, please!

My OH decide to try the ginger beer recipe posted on here. However, we're at the stage where the plant should be ready and we're to add the liquid to make the drink. But what should it look like at this stage? It just looks like a bit of sludge at the bottom of muddy water. I expected something fronthy, because of the yeast?

Can anyone advise (before he poisons us all )

The liquid (muddy looking water) is the bit that goes into the next stage, The sludge goes back in the jar with more water and you start feeding it again ready for the next week.

So it's meant to look that uninspiring?

Oh well, we'll have faith and give it a go!
