  • Anybody know if Wilko's still sell demijohns?

As the thread title says I know I bought a couple years ago from there and a friend has just asked if she can get some there, looked on the web site and can't find them but they do still seem to do some brewing stuff so wondered if any of you guys knew?

Beeston in Notts had one yesterday. So, I'm guessing yes! Depends on the shop though...

Good stuff, was worried I'd accidently lied to her - so long as they do have them in some shops it's not my fault if they're not in stock

They do in Hull. Mind you, they were a few bob each when I used to buy them. They are now over a fiver!

Look for 'em at carboots - I paid about £1 for each.

Lots of people are now using 5 litre plastic bottles or demijohns. I have some 5 litre mineral water bottles, and have drilled a hole in the cap to take an airlock. Daughter has just got into brewing and has ordered plastic demijohns with pre-drilled caps at around £2. 50 each from Amazon.

I don't think my friend would want to use plastic as she tries to avoid it at all costs already from an environmental and leaching point of view but I will mention to her. Car boots are probably a good idea but sod's law says they'd be none there when you went so will suggest she buys a couple and looks out for anymore cheaper if she gets into it. Thanks.

I don't use plastic. It can take up taints from the ingredients as well as leach out stuff into your wine.
