I have just checked my rumtopf and found that at some point it had spewed out of the top. I started it back whenever and followed a recipe from C.J.J.Berry's First steps in wine making.
Its basically for evey pound of fruit you add 1/2lb sugar. I have found that for the size of Rumtopf jar its too much as I cant get the variety of fruit I wanted.
I covered the top with loose cling film uder the lid to keep fruit flies out.
Got a mess to clear up now, Its ok though. Dont think it has spoilt it.
