Hi guys, thin unperfumed bleach has to be the cheapest, a few ounces (5) in a gallon for an hours soak followed by at least 3 rinses does the job, did we mean "demijohn"?, honestly! people can be quite silly
Eat well, live well, drink moderately and be happy (hic!)

Pah. The day I get my card stamped, I'm there. I may have small hands, but I can pick like nobodies business.

I'll have a bottle of wine for your cheek too, thanks.

Excellent news, so when are you up to Derby or are you talking the Alys Fowler Spring thing? Last Malvern show there was a guy running all sorts of courses, foraging being one. The Malvern Autumn fair is on too isn't it?
Are you not foraging anything from around your way? Get your boots on and get walking.

Just to disagree with everyone else. We make a bit of country wine, and have been making some, on and off, for a few decaes now. Apart from the first year, the only time I chemical-sterilise (as opposed to ordinary thorough washing) is if I have acquired some secondhand equipment, or a demijohn has been sitting unused for several months.
While I have had failures, none of them seem to be the type that would arise from not-sterilizing.
Plastic buckets (my usual pre-demijohn container) get the boiling rinse treatment, as the last stage of 'washing up', the rest just get the hottest rinse my hot tap will provide.
Corks get boiled, but that is mainly to make them soft enough to go through the corking machine!
Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.

If you use the baby equipment sterilising tablets you don't need to rinse - just drain well.
