  • Cranberry vodka recipe wanted

    I have just harvested my cranberries and would like to make some cranberry vodka with them. Does anyone have a tried and trusted recipe please?
    Last year I made sloe gin but it was too sweet so this year I reduced the sugar. So far however I just have coloured gin with no flavour. I think the fault really lies with the sloes not being ripe enough. I had ear marked the bushes in the summer but panicked when the fruits started to disappear as everyone picked early and ended up picking too early myself. However now the leaves have dropped off the bushes there are some very ripe sloes left and wonder if I should add some more sloes and sugar to the gin. Any thoughts?
    Lastly, I grew lots of blueberries this year. Is the recipe the same as for cranberries or do blueberries go better with a different alcohol? I have gin, vodka and brandy and like them all!

    I think that most fruits go well with clear spirits (ie gin or vodka) but you need a more robust fruit for the likes of whiskey - blackberries go well but I think raspberries are too delecate for the stronger flavour. Re the sloe gin, yes, lob some more in, good idea. Cranberry vodka would be lovely, if you don't want it too sweet then don't put much sugar in to start with, you can always add more later if you want.

    Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

    Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

      I keep having to put more sloes* in my sloe gin as it keeps, er, 'evaporating'

      * sloes, sugar and gin

        yeah yeah.....

        I can't get to mine without moving furniture, it's thwe only reason I still have some. I did try to make it with some jelly that failed to set too. I used haws, rosehips, some quince and sloes in this jelly, and it was still very wobbly, so I stuckit in a jar and topped up with vodka. Surpsiingly, it's lovely, not too sweet, and a good consistency

          I've made some cranberry vodka using Hilary's recipe (see raspberry vodka) and added more sugar and some riper sloes to my sloe gin. Is daily testing recommended do you think?
