Strawberry and Rhubarb Wine Recipe?

Good morning grapes.

Have any of you a tried and tested recipe for 1 a one gallon batch of strawberry and rhubarb wine? I've been searching tinternet and there seems to be vast differencies in the amount and ratio of fruit.

I did rhubarb and raspberry last year, Ananke - I didn't have enough rhubarb, so made up to 3lb of fruit with the rasps. I used 2lb 12oz rhubarb and 4oz rasps and thingy of red wine concentrate (from Wilko). from memory. It needed 2lb 12 sugar to bring it up to 1082 SG, and fermented out to give a 13% alcohol content.

Tastes very nice.

I made the batch in August 2013, and try to keep the 'fruit' homemade wines for 12 months in the garage before drinking. Except I'm on this one now, so I'm a bit ahead of myself.

My biggest hit of last year, mind, was with blackcurrant (3lb blackcurrants, 1l red grape juice, 1kg sugar) - they are just about in season now if you can get picking, or blag some from a fellow plotholder.....

Wish I'd read your post earlier, my plot neighbour invited me to pick some of her blackcurrants the other week, I had a quick search for a recipe and the general consensus was that they were too acidic on their own and should be mixed with other fruits.

I pressed the currants overnight and got a litre of very viscous juice that is now in the freezer until the blackberries and elderberries are ready.

The gooseberry and the strawberry and rhubarb are just slowing down now, both look great
