  • Rose vodka?

Well, I might give it a go,

I have a lovely deep mauve old rose in my garden.

1/3 fill a small parfait jar with petals
    1/3 with caster sugar
    top up with vodka

    ?????

do you think it would work?

Might be a bit too sweet (for my taste anyway - old sourpuss!) But it should be lovely. Thinks - I've got a Gertrude Jekyll rose - very fragrant. You'd have to remember to take out the petals after a while or they'd go brown and slimey I think. (Or did I dream that?)

Parfait jar is one of those jars that you 'lock' down the lids, has an orange sealing disk in it, sorry thats the best I can do,
made mine from a very dark mauve rose called Chianti, petals are now very pale looking after being in the vodka! cant taste the rose flavor yet, might add some more tonight. It is just an experiment so if it does not work .....oh well!

Hi Flummery...thanks for tip, I will take out the old petals and add fresh ones!
Have you seen a proper receipe for this?

                Le Parfait jars.....

                http://thecookskitchen.com/browse_2553

                That's the one!
There are other makes on the market, but some of them would crack if you put hot jam in them.

                Rose vodka eh????
Hmm..think I've got too many memories of 'magic potions' ( ie soil, twigs, leaves, stones, cobwebs, mixed in a jam jar with water and rose petals )....and left to go off!!!!

Sounds like we're fast going down the road towards the “early days” of the vine and Rhubarb schnapps. As a matter of interest.. How many Grapes made it and how did it turn out?

I have made it for two years now Jax!
The original recipe was a bit sweet and not enough fruit for my taste, so I've got an adapted recipe on the go....and initial tastings are good!
I thought I had 12x 1litre jars on the go....but then found 4 more I'd prepared earlier(!!!) with the new, pink shoots as a comparison.
I'm looking forward to the sampling..
The lemoncello recipe though for me is the winner so far this year in that it is ready in 5 hrs max , and VERY refreshing! Well worth a go for the peeps who like the flavour of lemon!

I'm going to put coffee beans in rum and, hopefully, make a version of "Tia Maria".
Has anyone else tried this? I've no idea how many to put in,so shall start with a few and see how it goes.

Depending on your love of anything chilli, put 6-10 bruised hottish chillies in a bottle of(cheap)vodka.Leave until you remember it again. If too early, put it in the back of a cupboard and leave etc. Very warming and probably good for you!
