Do you know what it is piglet?? Other than alcohol?? - what's it made from??grain/spuds/rice?????
Can you actually add it to a punch instead of gin or vodka??
I didn't end up using mine cos the boiler repair man said we should use calvados, anything else would be a crime
I wonder if it would make a lemoncello??

Just wanted to let you know that the lemoncello is wonderful!
I'll certainly be making a few more bottles in the very near future.
Only downside is that it's not using any of my homegrown produce...but then again- who cares- it's lovely!!

Thanks for sharing the recipe with us klmgardening!!

Nicos, I make a pukka 80 Limoncello recipe (from Sorento) and you can use either alcohol or vodka although the alcohol is more traditional. I think its grain based and is grand in punches or anything else to be honest. At 10 euros a litre its much cheaper than vodka.

I now only have 20 days to wait for my next batch to finish.

Can't you buy the preserving alchohol at the chemists in this country at a reasonable price then?

Don't think it's the same Snadge.
What they have in France is a grain alcohol which has no flavour.
The stuff I bought in France is called 'Alcool special pour Fruits Spiritueux'
It is 40% proof and comes in 1 litre bottles, costing E10 a litre.
I have one bottle which was given me from a different source and it is 38% proof and lists its contents as Eau ( water) and Alcool Ethylique ( if that means anything to you chemists out there?????)
What is the stuff you can buy at chemists then???? Is this the same thing????

I had some limoncello in Sorrento but wasn't too impressed with it! It seemed to me that one of the main fruits they grew there was a huge varient of a lemon and they had run out of ideas as to what to do with them? Instead of adding alchohol from an exterior source I would have thought they would have distilled the lemon juice/wine,? or is there not as much profit in this as bunging the fruit in alchohol/vodka and selling it to gullible tourists!
Sorry to bring a touch of sincism to the thread and for those who enjoy drinking the stuff I hope you enjoy making and drinking the homemade version too !

I found it absolutley gorgeous, particularly liked the fact that every time me and my friend went into a shop that sold it, the owner made us drink some

Fair point, well made! And we were two women in Italy therefore you always get big measures in bars. Went back a couple of years later with OH and he made me go to the bar all the time as they served me twice as much as him. Quality.
